Spain is usually known for Flamenco and bull-fights, sunny weather and great beaches. Spain has many beautiful old cities with great architecture. Many of the old buildings still have designs from the Islamic period, which included beautiful flower patterns in the walls.
Spanish people are quite laidback and by this I mean that they are not in hurry in completing things. It is not considered so bad to be a little bit late and sometimes even the supermarkets open late. I could say timekeeping is a flexible concept in Spain.
An expat just has to get used to this and also to the fact that Spanish people have siesta in the middle of the day. A normal working day in Spain is from 9am to 2pm and then they open again at 7pm and stay open until 9pm. This means that you cannot go to a bank or to a supermarket between 2pm and 6pm and also some of the restaurants open in the evening. Nightclubs and bars stay open late in the evening and Spanish people tend to go to have dinner between 9pm and 12pm. That might feel quite late for foreigners but it also means that there are not so many people in the restaurants at 8pm when you want to have dinner so food comes faster.
Sundays are holidays in Spain and this means that all the shops are closed. There might be some small kiosk open and even restaurants open in the evening. On Sundays many Spanish people go to the church and dress up really nicely. On Sundays Spain is really quiet and many people also got to the beach, because everything is closed in the cities.
